This viral image of theatre roof collapse is not from the screening of Final Destination in Argentina

This image is from Washington state, USA, and shows a ceiling collapse in February 2025, during the screening of Captain America: Brave New World

The American super natural film, Final Destination: Bloodlines fans in Argentina had an unexpectedly interactive experience as a section of the theatre ceiling came crashing down while they were watching the horror film. The incident took place last week at Cinema Ocho in La Plata, the capital city of Argentina’s Buenos Aires. A woman sustained knee injury due to the incident and was later taken to a nearby hospital. Following this, an image showing a firefighter facing a massive pile of debris in a movie theater is going viral on social media with the claim that this image is from the theatre in Argentina.

Fact Check-

We started our investigation by running a Google reverse search and whose results led us to a an NBC News report published on 27 February. As per the report, the viral image was from the Liberty Cinema in Wenatchee, Washington. The ceiling of the theatre collapsed on February 25, when just two people were watching “Captain America: Brave New World”, Marvel’s latest addition to the “Captain America” franchise. No injuries were reported from the incident. 

This incident was widely reported at the time, with news reports using this viral image. 

Upon further search, we found a video uploaded on this incident, showing the movie still being projected on the screen as debris from the broken ceiling lies in the theatre. The description part states, “A movie theater ceiling in Wenatchee, Wash., collapsed during a screening of “Captain America: Brave New World.” Luckily, a couple who was in attendance escaped unharmed”

Taking account of these evidences, we can understand that the image is unrelated to the recent Argentina theatre ceiling collapse.
