A video of a protest is going viral on social media with the claim that it shows the protest of people in Pakistan demanding Sindhudesh’s independence.

Fact Check-

By performing a reverse image search with the key frames of the viral video led us to a Twitter post from 23 February 2025 showing the same visuals. The caption states, “Pakistan is losing its identity! Stop constructing canals from the Indus and let the river flow freely. This is not just JSQM-A’s (Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, a political party) demand, it is the demand of the entire Sindhi nation!” This indicates that the viral video is not recent and not related to the recent incidents.

By closely observing the viral video, we noticed that it shows a banner that reads,  “Release Advocate Aamir Umrani.”

Taking these hints, we conducted keyword search and found several news reports regarding this protest. According to reports, highways in Sindh were blocked amid protests against the Indus Canal Projects. Nationalist parties across Sindh opposed the construction of six new canals on the Indus River, citing threats to the province’s water resources. Jeay Sindh Mahaz blocked the National Highway in Shaheed Benazirabad, also demanding the release of missing lawyer Aamir Ali Umrani.

These reports states that a protest took place on 23 February 2025 against the Indus Canal Projects in Sindh, Pakistan. Based on these evidences, we can understand that the viral video shows a demonstration against the construction of six new canals on the Indus River in Sindh.
