Old Photo Viral Claiming To Show Terrorists Killed In ‘Operation Killer’

The Indian Army carried out a counter-terror operation in Shopian on 13 May 2025, resulting in the killing of three terrorists during a fierce gunfight. 

Amid this, a photo showing two bodies is circulating on social media, with claims that it shows the terrorists killed in the Shopian encounter.

Fact Crescendo received several requests to verify such clips through its WhatsApp Tipline (9049053770).

FACT-CHECK

A reverse image search revealed that the viral photo was from 8 months ago.

Dainik Bhaskar shared the same photo 11 September 2024.

According to it, three terrorists were killed by the Indian Army in Akhnoor, Jammu and Kashmir on 28 October 2024.

Operation Keller

The Indian Army launched a fresh operation named “Operation Keller” in the dense forests of Shopian’s Shoekal Keller area on 13 May. 

Army engaged in a fierce encounter and killed three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. The operation was part of India’s continued efforts to combat Pakistan-backed terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. You can read more information here, here and here.

The Indian Army posted on twitter, “On 13 May 2025, based on specific intelligence of a Rashtriyas Rifles Unit, about the presence of terrorists in general area Shoekal Keller, Shopian, Indian Army launched a search and destroy Operation. During the operation, terrorists opened heavy fire and fierce firefight ensued, which resulted in elimination of three hardcore terrorists. Operation is in progress.”

CONCLUSION

Fact Crescendo found the claim made with the viral image to be misleading. The photo has been available on the internet since September 2024. 

The photo has no connection to the recent “Operation Killer” carried out by the Indian Army.
