Pak Journalist Hamid Mir Shares Old Rajasthan Fire Video to Falsely Claim Udhampur Airbase Attack

Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir shared a video showing smoke billowing from a building as people make way for a fire engine. Falsely claiming it depicted the Udhampur Airbase being “destroyed by the Pakistani Air Force,” Mir circulated the clip with misleading intent. Below is a screenshot of his tweet containing the false claim.

The video has also been shared widely on Facebook too. The screenshot shows the video being shared with the false claim on Facebook.

In our fact-check, we found that the video is of a fire that broke out at a chemical factory in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh on 8 May 2025.

Fact Check

On closely observing the video we found that the fire engine seen in the video is from Rajasthan. The fire engine has Rajasthan Firefighting Force written over it in Hindi. Moreover, the number plate of the engine is also from Rajasthan.

When we searched for any recent incidents of fire in Rajasthan, we found a live video on Facebook posted by Hanumangarh Breaking News.

The Hindi caption of the post reads: “Massive fire breaks out at a chemical factory in Hanumangarh; reports suggest people were burnt alive.” Notably, the fire engine seen in this video matches the one in Hamid Mir’s clip. The number plate reads RJ 14 GP 7823 in both the videos.

We also found an Instagram post by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) debunking the same video. The MEA clarified that the footage is from Hanumangarh, Rajasthan, where a chemical factory fire occurred. The post further emphasized that the video has no connection to ongoing India-Pakistan tensions.

Conclusion

Our fact check proves that the video shared by Hamid Mir is of a fire incident from Hanumangarh in Rajasthan and not of Udhampur air base. This video has no relation to the tensions between India and Pakistan.
