Recently a video of people struggling in queues with utensils in their hands went viral on social media claiming it to be from Pakistan after India suspended the Indus Water Treaty. Sharing the video users claimed that the video shows the water crisis in Pakistan after the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty by India after the Pahalgam terror attack.
However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The viral video is not from Pakistan. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking some screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a Facebook post where the viral video was uploaded on 28 December 2024. According to the caption, the video shows a situation in Gaza, where children can be seen waiting for food.
Taking this clue, we conducted a relevant keyword search. This led us to a similar video uploaded on the YouTube channel of the New York Post on 27 December 2024. According to the description, the video shows the Palestinians waiting for food making queues.
We found the same viral video on a Facebook page. According to the information given in the post, the video is from the Gaza Strip.
We noticed the name Doaa Albaz at the bottom of the video and the logo of Al Jazeera at the top left corner.
Taking the clue, we conducted a relevant keyword search. We found the Instagram handle of the Palestinian journalist from the Gaza Strip, Doaa Albaz, where the viral video was uploaded on 27 December 2024. The video credit was given to Doaa Albaz.
In another post in the same profile, we found some images that matched the scenes of the viral video. According to the caption, the video shows the children of Gaza, struggling for life to get a living.
This makes it clear that the viral video is from Gaza, Palestine.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video doesn’t show the water crisis in Pakistan after India suspended the Indus Water Treaty. It shows the situation of the hungry children in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.
