Unrelated Video from Bangladesh falsely shared as Indian Army operation in West Bengal

Murshidabad in West Bengal has recently witnessed incidents of violence following the amendments to the Waqf law. In one such tragic episode in Jafrabad, a mob attack led to the killing of a father-son duo—70-year-old Hargobindo Das and his son Chandan Das. Reports also suggest that several residents were displaced due to the unrest.

Amidst this backdrop, a video is being widely circulated on social media, purportedly showing army personnel arresting individuals and seizing weapons. Those sharing the video claim that it shows the Indian Army apprehending those involved in the violence in West Bengal. An example of such a post is shown below:

The caption of the above Facebook post reads, “Indian soldiers arresting those who showed cruelty in West Bengal,” suggesting that the video depicts an Indian Army operation. However, upon investigation, we found that the video is not from West Bengal but from Bangladesh. Moreover, the soldiers seen in the video belong to the Bangladeshi Army, not the Indian Army.

Fact Check

We watched the video carefully and noticed an Insignia on the arm of an army officer. Upon doing some research, we found out that the Insignia is of Bangladesh Army’s 46th Independent Infantry Brigade.

Furthermore, the logo of the channel Bangla Vision is also visible in the video. We found a YouTube channel named Bangla Vision News. All the content published by this channel bears the same logo seen in the viral video. The channel is also based out of Bangladesh.

Doing some keyword search on the YouTube Channel, we found the viral video posted by the channel on 29 October 2024. The Bangla caption of the video says, ‘Mohammedpur remains cold after Army’s 100 minute operation.’ You can watch the video below:
