Video of lawyers’ protest against Advocate Amendment Bill goes viral as protest against Waqf Amendment Bill

The viral video shows lawyers protesting against the Advocates Amendment Bill in February 2025.

The Waqf Amendment Bill, which was passed in the Lok Sabha on 3 April, 2025 with 288 members voting for it. The bill seeks to improve the administration and management of waqf properties in India. The All-India Muslim Personal Law Board has called for a nationwide protest from 11 April against the Waqf Amendment Act.

In this scenario, a video is going viral on social media claiming that lawyers have protested against the Waqf Amendment Bill. In the video, lawyers can be seen protesting outside the Tis Hazari Court demanding the withdrawal of the law.

Fact Check- 

We analysed the video carefully and found that a reporter is saying that the video is from outside the Tis Hazari court. In the video, The Advocate (Amendment) Bill 2025 is written on the poster. The logo of a news organisation is also visible in the video. On closer observation, it was identified as the logo of a YouTube channel named “HNP NEWS HINDI.”

Using these hints, we performed a keyword search on Google and found a similar video uploaded on the YouTube channel on 22 February 2025. From the timestamp 1:35, the viral video can be seen.

We also came across similar video on Forum4 News YouTube channel. According to the video report uploaded on 21 February 2025, lawyers are protesting outside the Tis Hazari Court regarding the Advocate Amendment Bill. The people seen in the viral video and this video are the same.

Moving forward, we found several news reports pertinent to the issue. A report published by The Hindu states that lawyers practising in district courts in Delhi had abstained from their work against the recent draft of Advocates (Amendment) Bill.

So, taking account of all these details we can understand that the viral video shows lawyers protesting outside the Tis Hazari court against the proposed Advocate Amendment Bill, 2025 and it predates the passing of the Waqf Amendment Bill.
