Is Asaduddin Owaisi crying over Waqf Bill in Parliament? – Know the truth

This video from 2024 August does not show Asaduddin Owaisi crying. He was simply rubbing his eyes and forehead.

The Waqf Amendment Bill, which was passed in the Lok Sabha on 3 April, 2025 with 288 members voting for it. The bill seeks to improve the administration and management of waqf properties in India. During the discussion surrounding the Bill, Lok Sabha MP and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi called it “unconstitutional” and an “insult to Muslims” before tearing a copy of the Bill.

In this scenario, a video of Owaisi touching his face and rubbing his eyes in Parliament has gone viral on social media with a claim that Owaisi was crying in Parliament after the Bill was passed.

Fact Check-

We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google and the results led us to a post on AIMIM’s official Facebook page. The party uploaded a video on 7 August 2024 showing Owaisi in the same clothes as seen in the viral video.

Moving forward, we also found the same video around 4:46:55 hours in the live streaming of the Lok Sabha session of 7 August, 2024, shared on YouTube by Odisha LIVE. In the live stream, it is clearly seen that Owaisi is merely rubbing his eyes, and not crying. The person speaking while Owaisi was seated was Pappu Yadav, the independent MP from Purnia, Bihar. He was delivering a speech at the Lok Sabha when Owaisi rubbed his eyes.

Watching the full video makes it clear that Owaisi removed his glasses, rubbed his eyes and forehead, and then put his glasses back on, not crying. The viral video is not recent and it is unrelated to the Waqf Bill.

Furthermore, we analysed the visuals from the most recent parliamentary session on the Waqf Amendment Bill, and Owaisi is dressed in white attire. So, it is clear that an old video has been falsely shared to show Asaduddin Owaisi crying in the Parliament over The Waqf Bill, 2025.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. This video from 2024 August does not show Asaduddin Owaisi crying. He was simply rubbing his eyes and forehead.
