Misleading

This viral video does not show the deleted scenes of Malayalam movie L2: Empuraan

The scenes that are surfacing as deleted from the movie Empuran are actually scenes from another film.

L2: Empuraan, a Mohanlal-starring Malayalam movie directed by Prithviraj and written by Murali Gopi, has been in the news since its release. The film is now hitting theatres after several parts were removed from the original version due to political pressure and widespread protests. The controversy surrounding the film, the second instalment of Lucifer, has prompted its makers to edit out certain scenes. In light of this, a video has gone viral claiming to show scenes omitted by the censor board through editing.

The two-minute-long video shows a group of Muslim youths attacking and setting fire to a train. The caption accompanying the video states that these are scenes removed from the film Empuraan.

Fact Check-

A Google reverse image search using the key frames from the viral video led us to the official trailer of the Bollywood movie “The Sabarmati Report”. It is based on the Godhra train burning incident of 27 February 2002, involving Sabarmati Express train.

In the viral video, young men dressed in Muslim attire carry out the assault, but the film Empuran, on the other hand, focuses on Hindu violence against Muslims. As a result, it is reasonable to conclude that these scenes have nothing to do with the film Empuran. Many of the moments seen in the viral video are included in the song that opens with “Ram Ram Jai Raja Ram” from the film Sabarmati Report.

Taking account of these evidences, we can understand that the movie, The Sabarmati Report, which came out in November 2024, contains the video that is being disseminated as deleted scenes from Empuran. The video has nothing to do with the film L2: Empuran.

Conclusion

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be Misleading. The viral video shows the scenes from the Bollywood movie “The Sabarmati Report”, which was released in November 2024.
