Old Video Falsely Shared as West Bengal’s MLA Mansoor Mohammad Dimir Beating Police.

A video of a man attacking a police officer is going viral on social media. Users are claiming that this is a video from West Bengal where a MLA is thrashing a police officer.

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. This is an old video of 2018 from Meerut. The person beating the police officer is BJP leader Manish Kumar.

What’s the claim?

Sharing the video, a social media user wrote, “Look at Bengal’s MLA Mansoor Mohammad Dimir. When this is the condition of the police posted on duty in uniform, then what will be the condition of the voters of Bengal…! The whole of India should see the condition of Bengal..

Fact Check-

A Google Reverse Image Search on a keyframe led us to the same video tweeted by ANI on 20 October 2018. According to the information, the person beating the police officer is BJP councillor Manish. The fight broke out after a heated argument when the police sub-inspector came to Manish’s hotel with a lawyer. Later the councillor was arrested.

According to the Hindustan Times report in 2018, this incident took place in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. BJP Municipal Councillor Manish Panwar and his associates physically assaulted a police officer inside a restaurant after an argument escalated. Following the incident, the police registered a case and arrested the councillor.

Conclusion:

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. The man beating a police officer in the video is not West Bengal’s MLA Mansoor Mohammad Dimir but a BJP Municipal Councillor from Uttar Pradesh. This is an old incident from 2018.
