Mass cheating at IAS exam centres in UP- Know the truth

This viral video, from February 2024, shows cheating during a legal examination in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. It is unrelated to the UPSC’s civil service examinations.

A video of students cheating during an examination is going viral on social media with a claim that it shows mass cheating during Union Public Service Commission exams in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. In the video, we can see a person going from class to class showing how mass cheating is taking place at an exam centre. The students can be seen with guides and answer sheets also.

We started our investigation with keyword and reverse image search on Google and the results led us to some news reports published in February 2024. According to the Dainik Bhaskar report, this video is from a law college in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh.

On 27 February, 2024, a group of students were caught cheating during an exam. They were openly copying answers from student guides and notes during the LLB exam. A student captured the entire incident on video, demanding action against the college authorities. 

Hindi news channel AajTak published a video report regarding the incident took place at a college in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. According to the report, students taking the LLB examination were openly cheating in the presence of teachers on 27 February 2024.

According to an ETV Bharat report, Shivam Singh, a student of TRC Law College, had his examination centre at this college in Barabanki. The college principal demanded a bribe from Shivam to allow him to cheat during the exam. When he refused, the college reportedly refused to issue him an examination pass. On February 27, 2024, Shivam went to the college campus and recorded the open cheating on a Facebook Live. Reports states that, after the video came out, the exam was cancelled and the college was fined Rs 2 lakh. The college was blacklisted for six years. A committee was also formed to investigate.

Based on these evidences, we can clearly understand that the viral video shows mass cheating incident during an LLB examination that took place on February 2024. It is not related to civil services examinations conducted by UPSC.
