iOS Preventing Users from Hanging Up Calls is A Satirical Meme!

A widely circulated image on social media suggests that Apple’s new iOS update includes a feature that prevents users from hanging up calls. The viral image shows an iPhone call screen with a notification implying that the call can only be ended by the originator of the call. Let’s look at the facts.

Social Media Posts

The image, which resembles Apple’s iOS interface, has been shared across various platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and X. The text in the purported notification reads, “You cannot hang up.” Aunt Janet has set her preferences so only she can end the call.” The image has been widely shared and has gained significant attention from online users.

Many users have reacted with humor, while others have expressed concern over the possibility of such a feature being real.

 Fact-Check

Upon investigation, we found no official Apple documentation, announcements, or credible reports supporting the existence of this feature.

Furthermore, by using the Reverse Image Search feature, we found that Soren Iverson, an application developer, had created this meme.

Iverson has created several other satirical feature concepts besides the “iOS call hang-up” meme. A Fact-check on one of his other satirical memes, “YouTube Ad Rewatch”, can be read here

His other creative and humorous suggestions include “an iOS feature that randomly connects you with strangers as friends,” “tracking unemployment streaks on LinkedIn,” and “notifications from Google Maps when traffic lights turn green.”

He also made things clear by explaining that those ideas are only for satirical purposes.

iOS’s Latest Updates

As of March 25, 2025, the latest beta version of iOS 18 is iOS 18.4 Beta 4, released on March 17, 2025. Based on available information, here’s what’s new in this latest beta:

  • Priority Notifications: Key alerts stand out on the Lock Screen, now tweakable per app in Settings.
  • Ambient Music: Control Center offers Sleep, Chill, Productivity, and Wellbeing playlists from Apple Music.
  • Visual Intelligence: iPhone 15 Pro gets camera-based object ID and translation, via Action Button or Control Center.
  • More Languages: Apple Intelligence adds French, German, Spanish, Japanese, and others.
  • Control Center: Cleaner design with an Apple Intelligence section and better volume animations.
  • Fixes: Standard bug and performance updates.

This beta release coordinates with updates across Apple’s ecosystem (iPadOS 18.4, macOS 15.4, etc.), showing a synchronised rollout of features. While significant Siri improvements are planned for later releases (possibly iOS 18.5 or 19), iOS 18.4 Beta 4 primarily refines existing features rather than introducing new ones beyond Beta 1. Developers and testers continue to discover detailed changes, but the updates listed above represent the key improvements.

Note that beta features may change before the public release, expected in early April 2025. (Source: MacRumors, 9to5Mac)

iOS gives users complete control to end calls at any time using the prominent “X” button, without any settings that restrict this basic function. This reflects Apple’s design philosophy of providing straightforward control over essential features.

Summary

The claim that Apple’s iOS has introduced a feature preventing users from hanging up calls is false. The viral image is a satirical meme created by designer Soren Iverson and is not part of any Apple update.
