This video does not show Holi celebration in China

This video is from the Chinese Lantern Festival celebrations.

A video showing fire crackers, laid down in the middle of a street, emitting multi-coloured smoke is going viral on social media with the claim that it shows Hindus celebrating the Holi festival in China.

Fact Check- 

We began our investigation with a reverse image search on Google and the results led us to a similar video uploaded on Instagram on 16 February with the description “The sixteenth day of the first lunar month in China”. The post described the event seen in the video as the celebrations of the Lantern Festival/Spring Festival in China’s Chaoshan.

Moving forward, we found a Facebook post by @TheJRECompanion from February 2025 carrying the same video to show the Lantern Festival in China. 

Chinese lantern festival is a traditional festival celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunisolar Chinese calendar, during the full moon. Usually falling in February or early March on the Gregorian calendar, it marks the final day of the traditional Chinese New Year celebrations

According to an article published by the Hindustan Times, ‘The main objective of celebrating the Lantern Festival is to encourage forgiveness, peace, and reconciliation. This day marks the first full Moon of the new lunar year and the conclusion of the Chinese New Year.”

The Lantern Festival is observed on the 15th day of the first lunar month, marking the conclusion of Chinese New Year (Spring Festival) celebrations. In 2025, it was celebrated on Feb 12. Holi celebrated in March 2025, so this video is from the Chinese Lantern Festival celebrations. 

Conclusion- 

Fact Crescendo found that the claim made along with the video to be Misleading. This viral video predates Holi and shows Chinese Lantern Festival celebrations
