Phishing Scam Targets Users with Fake Netflix Paid Review Scheme

A viral social media claim suggests that Netflix has introduced a public “movie reviewer program” that pays individuals to review unreleased movies. While this claim has recently gained widespread attention, Fact Crescendo’s investigation reveals it to be misleading.

SOCIAL MEDIA CLAIM

A viral claim spread across social media platforms suggesting that the American streaming service Netflix had introduced a reviewer program, offering payment to individuals for reviewing unreleased movies and shows.

Below is the screenshot of a claim that recently emerged on Threads on March 11, 2025. The post states: “Netflix offers a reviewer program where participants are paid to watch unreleased movies and shows, categorize them appropriately, and ensure they are easy to find through searches. This role, known as a tagger, can be applied for at [a website].”

A similar claim appeared on Threads from another user, who stated that Netflix offers a payment of $16 to $38 per hour for the role. The post also included a screenshot allegedly showing the compensation details for the job.

Below is the screenshot of the post on Threads in late January, stating: “Now, this is what you call passive income! Netflix has launched the Movie Reviewer Program where you review unreleased movies, and you get paid $16-$38/hr. I applied a month ago, and look at my payment. I’m so grateful for this!”

Furthermore, a TikTok user shared a short clip, demonstrating that she received payment from the American streaming service for the job, which she described as both enjoyable and easy to earn money from.

Given the claim’s extensive dissemination and the considerable attention, it has received from the internet community, we believed it was necessary to perform a fact-check on the above subject.

FACT CHECK

Fact Crescendo has started debunking the above claim through reliable sources, especially with the recent and latest news on Netflix’s official announcements.

Netflix has not made any public announcements regarding a new program where users are paid to review movies. If such a program existed, it would likely be promoted or officially announced by Netflix on its channels (such as the Netflix blog or social media platforms).

The following screenshot captured from the Netflix Newsroom does not show any recent news or updates related to the claim.

Fact Crescendo also conducted a keyword search and found no evidence of such an announcement on reputable news outlets, including Reuters, Bloomberg, or Netflix itself. As of today, there has been no official confirmation from Netflix or any credible sources regarding the launch of this program.

If Netflix were launching such a program, it would likely advertise it through job listings. However, no such listings for a paid movie reviewer program have been found.

The Netflix Preview Club is an exclusive, invitation-only program where select members are given early access to unreleased content, such as movies and TV shows. Participants are asked to provide feedback through surveys to help Netflix improve its offerings. The program is not open to the public, and members are not paid for their reviews. It’s designed to gather insights into viewer reactions before the content is officially released.

On the other hand, in a section titled “Phishing or suspicious emails or texts claiming to be from Netflix” on its Help page, the streaming service advises users not to click on any links or enter information on websites or apps pretending to be Netflix. Instead, users are encouraged to report such instances via email to phishing@netflix.com.

Similarly, Netflix also advises users to “go directly to the company website” if they are unsure about a suspicious link. Users can check the link by hovering the cursor over the hyperlink in a computer browser before clicking.

CONCLUSION

Fact Crescendo concluded that the above claim is misleading. Netflix hasn’t launched a public “Movie Reviewer Program” where people are paid to review unreleased movies. While Netflix does have a Preview Club where a select group of people can watch unreleased content and provide feedback, this program is invitation-only, and participants are not paid for reviews.
