However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was misleading. The viral video shows a man beating a few sex workers in Shyamoli, Bangladesh. The incident has no communal aspect. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by taking some screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a report published in the Bangladesh Protidin on 2 September 2024 that contained an image similar to the screenshots from the viral video. According to the report, the man in the video has a Facebook account named HM Rasel Sultan and he uploaded the video on his profile. He was beating the sex workers in the Shyamoli Square area in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Taking this clue, using relevant keywords, we found a report published in Kaalbela on 10 March 2025. The report contained an image similar to the screenshots from the viral video. The report read, “The Cyber Crime Unit of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested Rasel Hossain (30), who was accused of beating up women standing on the street in the capital’s Shyamoli area.

He was arrested from the capital’s Motijheel area around 6 pm on Monday (March 10).

This information was confirmed by the Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Department, Muhammad Talebur Rahman.

He said that Rasel was arrested in a raid based on secret information.

It is worth noting that several videos that have recently gone viral on social media show Rasel Hossain making derogatory comments and behaving violently towards women in the Shyamoli Square area. Later, the video went viral on social media, which sparked widespread criticism. In the video, Rasel Hossain is seen running around the street with a stick in his hand and beating women.

He was beating the sex workers in the Shyamoli Square area in Dhaka, Bangladesh, showing a protest against prostitution. However, he was arrested recently by the Dhaka Police. The incident has no communal aspect.
