However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was misleading. The video is old and not related to the Ramadan Iftar party. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking some screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a report published on 25 March 2019 which contained images similar to the screenshots from the viral video. The report read, “As the 2019 general elections are nearing, the Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan is busy touring across the state. As part of the election campaign, he was in Guntur district on Monday and participated in the campaigning at Guntur East Assembly constituency. During the campaign, he has visited Jana Sena MLA candidate Sheikh Zia Ur Rehman’s house. On this occasion, Rehman’s mother has read the holy book of Quran. With a lot of interest, Pawan Kalyan has listened to the readings. On PK’s visit to their home, a special lunch was arranged. Pawan Kalyan along with Rehman’s family members and other leaders sat on the floor and enjoyed the delicious biryani. At the lunch, Pawan Kalyan was seen wearing the traditional Muslim cap. The pictures of him having biryani have gone viral over the social media”.
Taking this clue, using relevant keywords we found several video reports published 6 years back.
The visuals matched the viral video. One such report stated that Pawan Kalyan had Biryani at a Janasena MLA candidate’s house in Guntur ahead of the 2019 AP elections.
Another video report can be seen below.
Other reports can be seen here and here.
This makes it clear that the viral video is old and unrelated to the Ramadan Iftar party.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. The viral video of Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan wearing a Muslim Cap and sharing dishes is old. He visited a Janasena MLA candidate’s house ahead of the 2019 Andhra Pradesh elections and had lunch there. This has no link to the Ramadan Iftar party.
