A video of a hanging bridge in Nepal falsely shared as Haridwar

The viral video shows Gandaki Golden Bridge in Nepal, it has no link to Haridwar

A video of a hanging bridge swaying between mountains, with some people shaking it while others scream and struggle to cross is going viral on social media. In the video, we can see people standing on the bridge are holding it. It is written on the video, “Haridwar’s Ram Jhula is shaking, it can fall anytime. Storm warning.” The video went viral a week after a Border Roads Organisation labourers’ camp in Chamoli, Uttarakhand was buried by an avalanche. Nearly 60 people were in the camp at the time. Eight were killed.

The post states that this bridge in the viral video is from Haridwar in Uttarakhand.

Fact Check-

Our investigation began with a reverse image search of key frames from the viral video, which led us to similar video uploaded on a Facebook page on 9 November 2024, with the caption “gandakigoldenbridge.”

Upon further research, we found that Gandaki Golden Bridge is a 567-meter suspended footbridge connecting Kusma Municipality in Parbat to Baglung Municipality in Nepal.

By closely observing the viral video, we noticed people wearing T-shirts with “Children Life Sports Club” written on the back. On searching about it on Google, we found the Facebook page of this club. According to the information on the page, this club is in Baglung, Nepal.

Since Baglung appeared as a common location, we searched for it on Google Maps and identified the bridge, the river below it, and even the building visible in the viral video.

Using these hints, we conducted further searches and found various reports regarding this bridge. According to these reports, the 567-meter-long suspension bridge spans the Kali Gandaki River, connecting Baglung and Parbat districts in Nepal. It has become a major tourist attraction, particularly for travellers heading to Mustang, offering breathtaking views of Mt. Dhaulagiri and the river below.

The Ram Jhula suspension bridge, a prominent landmark of Rishikesh town in Uttarakhand was in bad condition for a long time, after which it was declared unsafe in the year 2023 due to lack of repair for long time.

So, it is clear that the video of people crossing the shaking bridge is from Nepal, not India.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. The viral video shows Gandaki Golden Bridge in Nepal, it has no link to Haridwar.
