A video of a road caving in near a tunnel is going viral on social media with the claim that it shows visuals from Rajasthan’s Jaipur, where the road collapsed on 21 February.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation with the reverse image search on Google and the results led us to an Instagram post featuring the viral video uploaded on 12 July 2023. The caption states, “An unforeseen landslide occurred on this integral roadway in Turkey. The descent was triggered right at the entrance of the Darıcabaşı Tunnel, a key passageway within the city of Ordu, Turkey”.

It indicates that this viral video is not recent and not from Jaipur. The road collapse outside a tunnel is from Turkey.

A lot of related photos and videos are available on the internet with the same details. Using these hints, we searched further and found to a Turkish news report by Istanbul Gazetesi, which was published on 11 July 2023. As per the report, “The road in front of the Darıcabaşı Tunnel collapsed. A landslide occurred on the Black Sea-Mediterranean highway, which connects Ordu to Mesudiye, Sivas and the Mediterranean and indirectly concerns 50 provinces. 

There was a landslide on the road right at the entrance of the Darıcabaşı Tunnel. The landslide created a huge crack on the road and it is now unusable”.

Turkish TV channel NTV and Russia’s Sputnik News also reported on this incident, further confirming the location.

Another report states, “Due to the heavy rain that continued for 3 days in Ordu, the road collapsed at the tunnel exit of the Black Sea-Mediterranean Highway in the Mesudiye district”.

Meanwhile, we checked whether any road damage had occurred in Jaipur recently, but we could not discover any credible reports.

So, we can understand that the viral video showing the road collapse outside a tunnel is not from Jaipur, India but from Turkey.
