Old image from ICC World Cup 2023 viral as Indian flag displayed by fans during ICC Champions Trophy 2025

An image of some fans in a cricket stadium holding Indian and Afghanistan flags is going viral on social media. Users are claiming that during the Afghanistan and England match in ICC Champions Trophy 2025, fans were spotted waving the Indian flag in a cricket stadium in Pakistan.

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. This is an old image from ICC World Cup 2023 in Mumbai and not related to the current Champions Trophy hosted by Pakistan.

What’s the claim?

Sharing the image a social media user wrote, “In the Champions Trophy, Afghanistan defeated England by 8 runs and knocked them out of the Champions Trophy. In this match, once again the Indian tricolor flag was waved by the fans in the Pakistani stadium.

Fact Check-

Looking closely at the viral image, we found the text “ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup India 2023” written in the top left corner. We also found that the logo on the viral mage is completely different to the Champions Trophy 2025. The same text along with the ICC World Cup logo can be seen in an article published on ICC’s website

Below you can see the comparison between ICC World Cup 2023 and ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Apart from this, we also found the same image tweeted by a user in 2023. The tweet reads, “Afghanistan India Friendship Zindabad

Conclusion:

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. The viral image is from ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 hosted by India. This image is not from Afghanistan’s match with England in Champion’s trophy Pakistan.
