Rekha Gupta bought a car after becoming Delhi CM- viral claim is false

This car has been used by previous chief ministers like as Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi Marlena, and it was not purchased by Rekha Gupta recently.

The Bharatiya Janata Party won the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, and Rekha Gupta took oath as Delhi’s Chief Minister. Several videos surfaced on the internet following this event. Amidst this, a video is being shared that she purchased a high-end worth ₹50 lakh for herself. The claim also mentions that former CM Arvind Kejriwal’s car was worth ₹20 lakh.

Fact Check- 

We analysed the video carefully and found IANS (Indo-Asian News Service) logo on the viral video. Using this hint, we conducted a keyword search and found a similar video shared on the IANS Twitter handle on 20 February 2025. The video’s caption stated, “Delhi: CM security arrived to escort Rekha Gupta for the official proceedings.”

Next, we searched vehicle’s registration number on the RTO VEHICLE INFORMATION website and found that it was registered on 22 April 2022. The vehicle is listed as an “MG Gloster.” This confirms that the car was not purchased in 2025 after the Delhi Assembly Elections.

Upon further search, we found visuals from 2022 published in news reports showing Arvind Kejriwal using the same vehicle when he was the chief minister. 

A video report by news agency ANI published on 9 February, 2025 shows former CM Atishi Marlena leaving in the same vehicle bearing the same number plate to submit her resignation after AAP lost the Delhi elections.

All these evidences confirms that the current Delhi CM, Rekha Gupta, did not purchase this car. It was already with the Delhi government before she was elected as CM.

Conclusion- 

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be Misleading. Former Delhi Chief Ministers Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi Marlena used the same vehicle, revealing that it is a government vehicle purchased before Rekha Gupta was sworn in as Delhi Chief Minister.
