Recently an image of a Trishul formation in the sky by the fighter planes went viral on social media claiming it to be the Air Show by the IAF on the eve of Shivratri in Kumbh Mela.
However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The image is unrelated and predates the Kumbh Mela. Here’s the Fact Check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by conducting a relevant keyword search to find out whether any Air Show was performed by the IAF in Kumbh Mela. This led us to several news reports that stated that on the last day of Maha Kumbh Mela, the Indian Air Force conducted a spectacular Air Show over Prayagraj.
But, the visuals shown in the news reports didn’t match the viral image.
Moving forward, we conducted a reverse image search of the viral image. This led us to a tweet on 6 March 2019 that contained the viral image. Although no description of the image was found in the tweet, we could confirm that the viral image is old and unrelated to Maha Kumbh 2025.
We found one more social media post containing a clearer version of the viral image. The image was shared dedicated to the Indian Air Force on the occasion of Shivratri on 4 March 2019.
We found other posts from 2019 and 2020 that contained the viral image.
The Indian Air Force conducts Air Shows on different occasions. Going through different videos, we found that the Trishul formation by IAF doesn’t look like the viral image.
Please watch the video for a better understanding.
This makes it clear that the viral image is old and unrelated to the Maha Kumbh 2025.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral image doesn’t show a Trishul formation over Prayagraj by the IAF on the last day of Maha Kumbh 2025. The image is on the internet since at least 2019.
