However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The viral video is from West Bengal and is not related to the Kumbh Mela. Here’s the Fact Check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by taking some screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a longer version of the viral video on a YouTube channel “Suri News“. According to the caption of the video, the accused man was beaten up by the police after he grabbed one of the officers by the collar.

The video did not mention the details of the incident. However, we searched for relevant keywords in Bengali based on the name of the YouTube channel and the caption of the video. Then, we found a video report uploaded on 28 January 2025 on the TV9 Bangla YouTube channel. Among other clips in the report, we also saw the viral clip. According to reports, several armed men entered the village ‘Suri’ in Birbhum district of West Bengal over an old land dispute and intimidated the villagers. Police rushed to the village and a man named Amir Ansari grabbed the police officer by the collar and started an argument. Police later arrested about 20 people, including men and women.

We found a similar report on the Zee 24 Ghanta Facebook page.

Further, we found a report published in The Times of India on 28 January 2025 that contained photos similar to the screenshots from the viral video. According to the report, Birbhum police arrested 13 women and seven men on 28 January for allegedly attacking police. A lingering land dispute triggered the clash, police said.

This makes it clear that the viral video is from West Bengal and unrelated to the Prayagraj Mahakumbh Mela.

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video is related to a land dispute at Suri in Birbhum district of West Bengal. The incident has nothing to do with the Prayagraj Mahakumbh Mela.
