Recently a screenshot of a tweet allegedly from Priyanka Gandhi’s X handle went viral on social media. The tweet has been written in Hindi language that reads, “भारत मूर्खों का देश है जहां सरकार लोगों के पीने के पानी पर नहीं बल्कि ढोंगी और पाखंडियों के शाही स्नान पर करोड़ों का खर्च करती हैं”. However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The viral screenshot is fake. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

The username in the viral screenshot was written as “@PriyankagaINC”. We tried to find out the profile but couldn’t find any such profile on X.

We started our investigation by conducting a relevant keyword search. This led us to a tweet from 9 February 2019 where the viral screenshot was attached. In the screenshot, the date and time of the tweet were written as 3 February 2019 and 10:57 AM respectively.

Moving forward, we found the official X handle of Priyanka Gandhi which has the username “@priyankagandhi”. We couldn’t find any tweet similar to the viral one.

Again, a relevant keyword search led us to a news report which stated that Priyanka Gandhi joined Twitter(now X) on 10 February 2019 at 10:45 PM. The account had been verified by Twitter within a few moments. The report read, “…Priyanka Gandhi is yet to write her first tweet. At the time of filing this report, she was following five people, including her brother and Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

She had more than 35,000 followers as of 1:15 pm on February 11, 2019…”

Similar reports can be read here and here.

The Congress Party also tweeted about Priyanka Gandhi’s debut on Twitter (now X).

But, in the viral screenshot, the tweet date is 3 February 2019 which predates Priyanka Gandhi’s joining date on Twitter.

Moreover, we couldn’t find any report stating Priyanka Gandhi’s remarks on “Shahi Snan”.

This makes it clear that the viral screenshot is fake.

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral screenshot is fake. Priyanka Gandhi joined Twitter on 10 February 2019, but the viral screenshot is from 3 February 2019 which predates Priyanka Gandhi’s joining date on Twitter.
