Unrelated image of Gandhi family falsely shared linking to Manmohan Singh’s death

The viral image was taken at a restaurant in Delhi before the demise of Manmohan Singh

Following the death of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh an image of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi sitting with family members is going viral on social media. The users who share the image claims Rahul Gandhi flew to Vietnam to celebrate New Year while the country mourned Manmohan Singh’s death.  The caption states “Antonio’s family mourning Manmohan Singh in Vietnam.”

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation with a keyword search on Google and the results led us to the same image uploaded on the Instagram handle of Rahul Gandhi22 December 2024. The caption states, “Family lunch at the iconic Kwality Restaurant. Try the Chole Bhature if you go.”

Former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away at AIIMS Delhi on 26 December, 2024, due to age-related health issues. The timing of the viral image clearly predates his death.

Moving forward, we found reports of Gandhi family’s visit to the iconic Kwality Restaurant in Connaught Place on 22 December, 2024. The report even listed their meal preferences and the songs Priyanka Gandhi requested to be played during their visit. The report was published on 24 December.

This clearly indicates that the image of the Gandhi family predates the death of former PM Manmohan Singh.

Conclusion- 

Fact Crescendo found that the claim made along with the viral image to be Misleading. The viral image was taken at a restaurant in Delhi before the demise of Manmohan Singh.
