Old video goes viral as accident in Texas on New Year

This viral video is not recent, it is from February 2021

A video that shows cars and trucks slide across a road and slam into one another, leading to a massive crash is going viral on social media. The users who shared the video claims that the catastrophe occurred on 1 January, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas.

The caption of the post states, “Wow this is scary! Happened Jan 1st in Fort Worth Texas. Huge car Pile-Up”

Fact Check- 

We started the investigation with a reverse image search on Google which led us to a similar video uploaded on the YouTube channel in September 2024. The description stated that this incident took place on 11 February, 2021 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Moving forward, we found an ABC News report dated 12 February, 2021. It also stated that at least six people died and 65 were injured in a massive accident in Fort Worth, Texas. At least 133 vehicles were involved in this multi-vehicle crash on the I-35 highway.

We also came across another video with the caption, “Frightening Video of the Massive Pileup Wreck on Ice in Fort Worth, Texas”. It also mentions the details as “An additional camera angle shows the speed vehicles were going when they wrecked on I-35 in Fort Worth, Texas on Thursday, February 11”.

National Transportation Safety Board issued a comprehensive report about this accident which noted that before the accident, the area received 36 consecutive hours of below-freezing temperatures. The two southbound toll lanes in the vicinity of the crash were pretreated to prevent icing. However, freezing rain and mist led to a massive crash on the highway.

According to National Centres for Environmental information, on February 11-20, 2021, a historical winter event occurred that set many records, including being the first billion-dollar weather disaster of that year. A deep freeze impacted parts of the continental United States (CONUS), remarkably engulfing the entire state of Texas. 

So, all these evidences confirm that the viral video is not recent. It dates back to February 2021.

Conclusion- 

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be Misleading. This viral video is not recent, this accident happened in February 2021.
