Old video from Jammu and Kashmir falsely shared as Christian procession in Punjab.

The viral video is from Jammu and Kashmir and it is not recent.

Following last week’s Christmas celebrations, a video of a procession showing Jesus Christ’s crucifixion has gone popular on social media, with the claim that it is a recent event from Punjab. The post was shared amid claims of the faith attracting an increasing number of followers in the state. The caption of the post states, “Punjab has really fallen, conversions are at its peak”.

Fact check

A Google reverse image search using the key frames of the video led us to 

a media report in a daily newspaper published from Jammu and Kashmir. The caption of the report states, Impressive Procession by Jammu and Kashmir Joint Churches Fellowship in Commemoration of Good Friday and Easter and it included an image similar to the visuals seen in the viral video.

Another report by Daily Excelsior, dated 28 March, 2024 also carried image similar to the visuals seen in the viral video, it detailed a procession organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Churches Fellowship ahead of the Good Friday and Easter in Jammu.

As per reports, “A Peace procession was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Churches Fellowship on the Eve of Good Friday and Easter. Different Churches of Jammu city and around participated in the rally with trollies depicting the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Choirs from churches sang song about the life, death and rising again from the dead. Scenes of Jesus Christ carrying the Cross and being beaten by the Roman soldiers were the main attraction of the procession”.

So, all the evidence indicates that the viral video shows a procession organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Churches Fellowship as part of the Good Friday and Easter observances in March 2024.  It is not recent and not from Punjab.
