Recently a video of former Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal went viral on social media. He can be heard saying that he has understood a little bit of politics nowadays. The Yamuna issue will not get him votes. However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was misleading. The viral video has been cropped from a longer video. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by taking some screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to the longer version of the video uploaded on the YouTube channel “Prakhar Ke Pravachan” on 27 December 2024. Going through the video we found that the viral video is a clipped version of this video.

Around the timestamp 34:30 Prakhar Gupta and Arvind Kejriwal start discussing the issue of the Yamuna River cleaning. From the timestamp 43:58, Arvind Kejriwal says, “Prakhar, I have understood a little bit of politics nowadays. Yamuna will not get me votes. But, still, I’ll clean Yamuna. Because I haven’t come here to do politics for votes. They were already doing vote politics…”

A comparison between the viral video and the original video can be seen below. This makes it clear that the viral video has been clipped from the original video and shared with misleading claims.

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. The viral video has been clipped from the original video. Arvind Kejriwal didn’t say that he would not clean the Yamuna River as it wouldn’t bring him votes. In the original video, he said that cleaning the Yamuna River would not bring him votes, but he would still clean the Yamuna River. He did not come to do politics for votes.
