Did Muslims in Bangladesh destroy the crops grown in Hindu fields? Know the truth

A video of a man crying while sitting on a field after seeing the burned crop is being widely shared on social media. The viral video is being claimed that Muslims in Bangladesh burnt the crop in the fields of Hindus by pouring petrol on it. 

The caption of the post states, “Now in Bangladesh, Muslim people are destroying the crops grown in Hindu fields by burning them by pouring petrol on them. And they are telling Hindus to leave their farms and houses and go from Bangladesh to India”.

Fact Check-

We stated our investigation with a reverse image search on Google and the results led us to a Bangladeshi news website. In which the image from the viral video has been used. After translating the document, it was discovered that the farmer was identified as “Nasim Mia”. The incident occurred on the morning of 5 December, 2024 in Piyarpur Lakshmipur village in Bangladesh.

Nasim Mia, who had leased one-and-a-half bighas of land, said someone had poured petrol on his stored paddy bundles and set them on fire.

Using the hints, we conducted further search and found other news reports related to the incident. The news of the incident can be seen  here , here and here

During the investigation, we found a video report uploaded on 5 December 2024 from the YouTube account of Bangladeshi News Channel 24. It also contains the scenes from the viral video. The article stated miscreants burnt rice crops grown in one and a half bighas of land by farmer Nasim Miya in Kushtia.
After harvesting the paddy crop, it was kept in the field for a few days to dry, but on Wednesday night someone poured petrol and set the crop on fire.

In addition, the report also carries a statement from a local police officer. Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shehabur Rahman Sihab said that if a complaint is received, the matter will be investigated and legal action will be taken. 

We found no evidence to support that the farmer in the viral video belonged to the Hindu community. We could not find any reports indicating a communal angle in this incident.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. The man crying in the video was identified as a Muslim farmer named Nasim Miya, whose crops were burnt by miscreants on 5 December 2024 in Piarpur Lakshmipur village in Bangladesh.
