Rahul Gandhi Admitted To Pushing A BJP MP? Here’s The Truth.

Recently, a video has gone viral on social media claiming that Congress MP Rahul Gandhi himself admitted to pushing a BJP MP. On December 19, BJP MP Pratap Sarangi alleged that Rahul Gandhi had pushed an MP, and the MP fell on him, and he too was injured. Sharing a video of Rahul Gandhi answering the journalists, a Facebook user wrote, “After admitting to manhandling, Shri Rahul Gandhi shamelessly dismisses his aggressive behaviour by saying, “Nothing happens with a push.”

It’s shameful that he downplays an incident that has caused a head injury to a senior MP and two MPs being hospitalized, all due to his actions.

Arrogance runs in the veins of the Gandhi family.”

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. Rahul Gandhi was talking about Mallikarjun Kharge being pushed. He didn’t admit that he had pushed a BJP MP. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We noticed that the viral video had the logo of the news agency ANI. Taking this clue and using relevant keywords, we found a clearer and longer version of the viral video on the official X handle of ANI on 19 December 2024.  Answering the journalists, Rahul Gandhi said, “This might be on your camera. I was trying to go inside through the Parliament entrance, BJP MPs were trying to stop me, push me and threaten me.” At the 0:23 timestamp of the video, the journalists asked him if Mallikarjun Kharge was pushed. Rahul Gandhi said in response, “Yes, this has happened…But we do not get affected by jostling (हां,किया है किया है, मगर ठिक हैं, कोई मतलब धक्का मुक्की से हमें कुछ होता नहीं हैं).

This part has become viral with the claim that Rahul Gandhi himself admitted to pushing the BJP MP.

We found the same video from a different angle on NDTV’s YouTube channel. There, too, it is heard that Rahul Gandhi said that there was a pushing incident with Mallikarjun Kharge, but this kind of incident doesn’t affect them.

We found a clearer version of the viral video on the X handle of PTI.

A comparison between the viral video and the original video can be seen below.

This makes it clear that Rahul Gandhi himself did not admit to pushing the BJP MP but was answering questions from reporters whether Mallikarjun Kharge was pushed.

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. Rahul Gandhi himself did not admit in the video that he pushed the BJP MP. He was responding to a reporter’s question on whether Mallikarjun Kharge was pushed and said that Mallikarjun Kharge was pushed.
