We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google and the results led us to a Twitter post of Shashi Tharoor shared on 16 December 2022 carrying the same viral image. While posting this image, he wrote, “I badly sprained my left foot in missing a step in Parliament yesterday. After ignoring it for a few hours the pain had become so acute that I had to go to hospital. Am now immobilised w/a cast, missing Parliament today& cancelled wknd constituency plans”

On December 15, 2022, while walking on the steps of Parliament, Shashi Tharoor sprained his left leg due to a misstep. He was admitted to the hospital due to severe pain. He later rested on a bed at home, this is the image that is currently going viral. Media outlets like Hindustan Times published this news at that time.

Moving forward, we also found a tweet by Shashi Tharoor on 12 December 2024 regarding this image. It states, “When the usual troll factory is reduced to circulating a two-year-old picture of mine with a sprain led foot, accompanied by picayune comments, one realises how desperate they are for a distraction! For all those expressing concern about my well-being, I am pleased to say that not only is my leg alright, but I have been attending parliament daily and spoke in the debate on the national disaster management bill yesterday”. In the same tweet, he affirmed that he was in good condition.

Based on this evidence, we can say that an old image of Shashi Tharoor showing an injury on his leg is going viral as a recent incident
