A video of a clash between two Muslim community groups in Bangladesh is being shared with claims of atrocities against Hindus.

A video is going viral on social media in which a large crowd of people carrying sticks are vandalizing various places and are creating chaotic situation. Users are claiming that this is an incident from Bangladesh where Muslims are attacking Hindus and destroying Hindu places of worship. 

However, Fact Crescendo has found the viral claim to be false. A video of a clash between two Muslim community groups in Bangladesh is being shared with the claim of an attack on Hindus.

In the viral video, a lady can be heard saying, “This video is from Bangladesh. People are entering houses of Hindus and killing and burning each and every one alive. Don’t ask how they are treating Hindu women. This is the condition of Hindus in Bangladesh

Fact Check- 

A Google Reverse Image Search on a keyframe led us to a video posted on Facebook on 29 November 2024. The user wrote, “Not only minorities, Muslims are also not safe from the clutches of fundamentalist terrorists. Watching the video clip of the attack and looting at Sherpur, Murshidpur Darbar Sharif, it is clear where Bangladesh is heading today.

We found a video on Bangla Affairs YouTube Channel. The video was uploaded on 28 November in which you can watch the viral clip from 50 seconds onwards. According to information, some Muslim people attacked and looted a shrine called Pir Mazar in the Sherpur area of ​​Bangladesh. 

We also found that the Darbar of Doja Pir in Sherpur Sadar was attacked, vandalized and was set on fire. Police said that Murshidpur villagers, teachers and students of the local Qaumi Madrasa had demanded the closure of the Darbar Sharif, alleging immoral activities. The villagers clashed with the Pir’s followers over this.

According to a Dhaka Tribune report, police had detained seven people in connection with the vandalism and looting of Murshidpur Darbar Sharif led by Doja Pir in Laxmanpur area of ​​Sherpur. Thirteen people were injured in the attack by 400-500 unidentified assailants. Seven of the injured were admitted to the hospital and one was shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Mahmudan Masood, caretaker filed a complaint and named 25 suspects including a local madrasa superintendent and alleged that local madrasa teachers and residents incited the attack by accusing Darbar Sharif of anti-Islamic activities. The case is under investigation.

Conclusion: 

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. The video is not of an attack on Hindus. This is an incident of clash between two Muslim community groups in Bangladesh which is being shared with communal claim.
