A Kenyan Singer Singing Md Rafi’s Song? Here’s The Truth.

Recently, a video of a singer performing the song “Na kisi ki aank ka noor hu” by Mohammad Rafi went viral on social media. Sharing the video, users are claiming that the singer is a Kenyan singer. Sharing the video on Facebook, a user wrote, “Good Morning 🌹

Unbelievable that he is not Indian. This African Singer is from Kenya in kisumu Tribe Lou. He is a Black Kenyan.

Just close your eyes and listen to his voice.

Just Amazing !! 👍👌👌👏”

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The singer in the video was not a Kenyan but an Indian. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check 

We started our investigation by taking some screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a YouTube channel where the viral video was uploaded on 1 April 2020. The caption of the video read, “Na kisi ki aankh ka Noor who by sanjy sawant”

The name of the singer was mentioned in the caption as Sanjay Sawant. 

Moving forward, we found a clearer version of the viral video on the YouTube channel Jagruti Films. The video was uploaded on this channel on 9 January 2021.

Going through the comments section, we found that many users mentioned the singer as Sanjay Sawant. 

For more clarification, we contacted the YouTube channel Jagruti Films. The channel owner and event organizer, Haribhai Gor, confirmed to us that the singer in the viral video is Sanjay Sawant from Mumbai. The video is from an old event in Ahmedabad.

Using relevant keywords, we found a video uploaded on a YouTube channel with the caption “Mohd Rafi Nite”. The description of the video read, “A short preview of the show ” WOH JAB YAAD AAYE”  paying tribute to MOHD RAFI  presented by me in 2011 with singer Sanjay Sawant…”

We could see the same singer was singing in a different show. Around the timestamp 9:05 of this video, the anchor introduced the singer as Sanjay Sawant.

We found the Facebook page of Sanjay Sawant, which can be seen here. We contacted Sanjay Sawant for further details. We will update it whenever we get the reply.

From this, it’s clear that the claim is false. The singer in the viral video is not from Kenya. He is an Indian singer.
