Is a cloud falling from the sky to land? Know the truth.

The video originates from Indonesia and has no connection to natural clouds, but a condensation of water vapor or gas due to human activity that occurs in the mining area.

A video showing a white material resembling a white cloud falling and settling on the ground while being observed by a group of people is going viral on social media. The video has been shared with claims that it depicts a “fallen cloud”. In the video, we can see men wearing construction helmets, seemingly workers at the site, rushed to the spot as the formation hit the ground. Some were seen interacting with the cloud-like object by touching it.

The caption of the video states, “Cloud Falls Out of the Sky onto Land”

Fact Check-

We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google and we found several reports carrying the screen shot of the viral video. As per the reports, the incident occurred in Muara Tuhup, Murung Raya, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. This area, part of the Indonesian side of Borneo island, is known for its mining activities, which were later linked to the peculiar occurrence.

According to VOI, an Indonesian news portal, the country’s Director of Public Meteorology, Andri Ramdhani, clarified that the phenomenon was not an actual cloud falling to Earth. Instead, it was most likely a condensation of water vapor or gas caused by human activities at the mining site. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that white objects found floating from the sky until slowly descending to the ground surface in Murung Raya Regency, Central Kalimantan were not clouds falling, but were thought to be just clumps of steam.

The report states, “The phenomenon is most likely not a natural cloud, but a condensation of water vapor or gas due to human activity that occurs in the mining area,” said BMKG Director of Public Meteorology Andri Ramdhani in Jakarta, Saturday, November 16, 2024.Andri explained that the clouds cannot fall to the surface as dense clumps, because the particles are very light and scattered with low density. This is because clouds are a collection of very small and light water droplets or ice crystals, so they continue to float in the atmosphere with the help of air currents.

Cloud particles usually evaporate before reaching the ground, especially when environmental changes occur. Therefore, he said, the phenomenon in the video is most likely not a natural cloud, but a condensation of water vapor or gas due to technical or operational activity. “This vapor or gas is often denser than natural clouds, so it looks like it can be touched or held. However, this is just a visual effect, because what actually looks just a temporary clump of steam,” he explained.

The BMKG emphasized that this phenomenon is not dangerous and temporary so that people, especially those in locations around the discovery, do not need to worry, because this is not a sign of natural disturbance.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be Misleading. The video originates from Indonesia. As per the sources, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) confirmed that the white object is not a falling cloud. Most likely, human activities at the mining site caused a condensation of water vapor or gas.
