The government has not increased the retirement age of central government employees to 62.

An image that purports to be a notification is circulating on social media, claiming that the Government of India has raised the retirement age for employees. The post claims that the Government of India has raised the age of retirement of central government employees from 60 to 62 years and this new rule will apply to employees who will retire after April 1, 2025. In this document that’s being shared, an explanation for the reasons behind introducing this change and how it will benefit the employees was also given.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation by checking the official notifications released by the central government but could not find any document. The government has not officially released any such document regarding the retirement age of central government employees.

Moving forward, we have come across a clarification issued by the fact-checking unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) of the Government of India, which has also checked the viral claim and clarified the post doing the rounds on the internet was fake. The tweet states, “A news going viral on social media is claiming that the Government of India has decided to increase the retirement age of central government employees by 2 years”.

Apart from this, we found several reports from August 2023, the government confirmed in the Lok Sabha that there is no proposal under consideration to change the retirement age of central government employees. 

Union Minister Jitendra Singh on 9 August said there is no proposal under consideration to change the retirement age of Central Government employees. In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, minister said 122 government officers have been given compulsory retirement in the last three years under different provisions of service rules. “There is no proposal under consideration to change the retirement age of central government employees,” Mr. Singh said.

So, we can understand that the Indian government has not increased the retirement age of central government employees to 62.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found that the claim made along with the viral image to be False. The viral document is fake and that the government has not officially released any such document regarding the retirement age of central government employees.
