The lady in the video is not the Kolkata rape victim. The video is viral with false claim.

After the gruesome rape and murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, a video claiming to show her final moments has surfaced on social media. The lady in the video has injury marks on her face and throat. Users are claiming that this is the last video of the Kolkata rape victim in pain before her demise. 

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. The lady with injury marks in the video is not the rape victim but a makeup artist who created the video for awareness purpose.

Fact Check- 

A Google Reverse Image Search on a keyframe led us to the same video tweeted by a user on 17 August 2024. The caption reads that the original video was created by Zeenat Rahman.

After this, we searched for Zeenat Rahman’s social media accounts but we found that her Facebook and Instagram page were locked. But few posts of her are available on other Facebook pages. One such post can be seen here. 

Police Investigation: 

According to a report, Kolkata Police said that the body of the doctor was found brutally murdered in the hospital premises. Given the severity of the victim’s injuries and the circumstances of her death, it is unlikely that she recorded the video herself during or after the attack.

The suspect, identified as Sanjay Roy, a civilian volunteer of the Kolkata Police Disaster Management Force, has been arrested after the CCTV footage and other evidence linked him to the crime. On the night of the incident, he was found drinking with a patient’s relative before entering the seminar hall where the victim was resting. After committing the crime, he was seen leaving the place around 4:30 in the morning. He confessed to the crime after his arrest. 

Conclusion: 

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. The lady in the viral video is not the Kolkata rape victim, but a makeup artist. The video was created for awareness and to show the depth of pain and trauma.
