A video of flag hoisting during the Independence Day celebration went viral on social media. The video shows that the flag was stuck and it got unfurled when a bird came near to the flag. Sharing the video, social media users claimed that the bird unfurled the flag.

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. Because of the camera angle, it looked like the bird unfurled the flag. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

Looking closely at the viral video it can be seen that the bird was actually sitting on the coconut tree.

Moving forward, using relevant keywords we found the video uploaded on an Instagram handle on 17 August 2024. The video was shot from a different angle where it could be seen clearly that the bird actually sat on the coconut tree. It didn’t come near to the flag at all. The flag was hoisted while the bird came flying and sat on the coconut tree.

A comparison between the viral video and the video shot from another angle can be seen below.

The incident took place at an Anganwadi centre in Maramangalam village in the Malappuram district of Kerala.

From this, it is clear that the bird did not go near the national flag but sat on the coconut tree.

Conclusion 

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The bird didn’t unfurl the stuck national flag as claimed in the viral video. The bird didn’t go near the flag at all; rather was sitting on the coconut tree.
