Old and unrelated video falsely shared as Vinesh Phogat breaking down following her disqualification from the Paris Olympics.

Wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024, since she was found to be overweight prior to her gold medal battle in the women’s 50 kg category. Against this backdrop, a video of wrestler Vinesh Phogat breaking down is going viral on social media, claiming to show the way she responded after being disqualified from the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The caption of the post states, “See and feel that unlucky time when @Phogat_Vinesh was disqualified at the Olympics so called “100gm” overweight rules. #SilverMedal#IndiaAtOlympics#vineshphogat#Paris2024”

Let’s check the truth.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation by observing the video carefully and found the 

logo of Sports Authority of India (SAI) on a signboard in the background of the video. Further, we also found a watermark on the right-hand side of the video that reads nnis. This indicated towards the possibility of the video not being from the Paris Olympics.

Using this clue, we searched with keywords and found a longer version of the same video was uploaded on the official YouTube channel of @NNISSportsNews on 12 March 2024. The description states, Watch Vinesh Phogat showing why she is the “Queen Bee” of wrestling with a stunning victory in the 50kg Final against Shivanee! Securing her berth for Worlds and Asian Olympics Qualifiers with a nail-biting win against Shivanee in the 50kg Final. At around the 7:54 timestamp, we can see the viral video playing. The video depicted Phogat and Shivanee’s full bout, as well as the former’s passionate emotions after winning.

The viral video was also shared on the official Facebook page of “nnis” in March, 2024. The caption states, “Vinesh Phogat got emotional after winning the 50kg final, securing her berth for the Asian and World Olympics Qualifiers!” 

Taking account of all these evidences, it is clear that the viral video is old and unrelated to the Paris Olympics.
