This video is not recent, and it does not show a Hindu protest in Bangladesh, but rather a Bangladesh Chhatra League rally held in September 2023.

Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country on August 5, after weeks of protests against a quota system for government jobs descended into violence and grew into a broader challenge to her 15-year rule. Social media is abuzz with many videos, images, and news alleging that there are big attacks against the minority Hindus in Bangladesh in this context. 

Amidst this we have noticed a video of a rally in Bangladesh is going viral on social media. While sharing the video users claim that “Saffron flood on the streets of Dhaka Hindus of Bangladesh have taken to the streets to protest against the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.

Let’s check the truth

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation by conducting a keyword and reverse image search on Google and the results led us to a Facebook post uploaded on1 September 2023 in which the similar images as the viral video have been shared.  

The post states “Gafargaon Upazila Chhatra League and Municipal Chhatra League organized by Bangladesh Chhatra League in commemoration of “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatun Necha Mujib”.

Using this hint, we searched more and found many media reports related to this rally held in September 2023. According to a report in the Dhaka Tribune, the Chhatra League had organized a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on 1 September 2023. Lakhs of Chhatra League members from all over Bangladesh participated in this historic rally. Sheikh Hasina herself addressed the gathering at Suhrawardy Udyan. The rally was organized to honor the ‘Father of the Nation’ Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib.

On further search, we came across a similar video on YouTube titled “Under the leadership of Fahmi Gulandaz Babel MP, Rajpath Kampalo Gafargaon Upazila Chhatra League of Dhaka again” uploaded on 2 September 2023.

So, it is clear that the viral video is not of the demonstration of Bangladeshi Hindus, but of the Chhatra League rally held in Dhaka a year ago. 

Conclusion- 

Fact crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. This video is not recent, and it does not show a Hindu protest in Bangladesh, but rather a Bangladesh Chhatra League rally held in September 2023.
