India had won 4 bronze medals till now in the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024. People were hoping that the first gold medal for India would come at the javelin throw event. Against this backdrop, a social media post claiming that Neeraj Chopra won gold in the Paris Olympics 2024 is going viral. 

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. Neeraj Chopra won silver in the javelin event at the Paris Olympics 2024. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won the gold.

Fact Check- 

A relevant keyword search on Google led us to NDTV’s news report on 9 August 2024. According to the report, in the final of men’s javelin competition at the Paris Olympics 2024, Neeraj Chopra scored 89.45 meters and won the silver medal. Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan won the gold medal by throwing 92.97 meters. 

We searched the Olympics website to confirm the news. We came to know that Neeraj Chopra threw 89.45m javelin and bagged the silver medal in second place. On the other hand, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem has won the gold medal by throwing javelin over 90 meters twice in the final.
