DYFI youth brigade workers video to aid the victims of the Wayanad landslide falsely shared as RSS workers

The viral video shows DYFI’s Thaliparamba Youth Brigade collecting relief supplies for victims of flood-ravaged Wayanad. Not the RSS workers or their camp.

At least 250 people have died and about more than 200 others were injured after a series of landslides hit Kerala’s Wayanad district amid heavy rain on 30 July. The landslides caused massive destruction to houses and roads, uprooted trees, and led to the water bodies to swell. Efforts to rescue and locate the missing persons are still underway with all available resources. 

On this backdrop, many videos and images from the devastated area are circulating on social media; one of them shows the volunteers packing and dispatching the essentials for the victims of the Wayanad landslide is going viral with the caption “Rss helping Wayanad people and working day and night also collecting food and distributes to needed ones”. The viral video shows several volunteers and Malayalam actress Nikhila Vimal also.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation with keyword search and found that The DYFI’s Youth Brigade collected relief supplies for victims of flood-ravaged Wayanad. Film actress Nikhila Vimal joined the efforts actively with them. It was coordinated by DYFI Thaliparamba (A place in Kannur District, Kerala) Block Committee, members and volunteers sorted collected items at Public Library Hall before taking off to reach the essential supplies to communities at relief camps of Wayanad. The news and this video were covered by many media outlets.

As per the Mathrubhumi report, amid ongoing relief work for the victims of the Wayanad landslide, actress Nikhila Vimal has taken a proactive role by participating in the efforts. She joined volunteers at the Thaliparamba Collection Centre here, established by the DYFI, to pack and dispatch essential goods to the affected areas.

Upon further search, we found the same video was uploaded by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) on their Instagram handle also. It also states Thaliparamba collection centre collecting essential items for Wayanad under the leadership of DYFI.


For further clarification, we contacted DYFI Ernakulam District Committee President K M Riyad, who confirmed that the viral video is from the DYFI’s Thaliparamba collection center, which is managed by Youth Brigade members, rather than RSS activists or their camp. Many collection centers been emerged throughout Kerala to help victims of the Wayanad landslide. DYFI fully supports any efforts to protect the impacted people in Wayanad.

Conclusion- 

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. The viral video shows DYFI’s Thaliparamba Youth Brigade collecting relief supplies for victims of flood-ravaged Wayanad. Film actress Nikhila Vimal joined the efforts. Not the RSS workers or their camp.
