China has not chosen a design inspired by the Palestinian flag for the Paris Olympics 2024

The image dates back to August 2023 and features the cover of the September 2023 issue of Vogue China Magazine. They were taken for the promotion of the Hangzhou Asian Games held between 23 September to 8 October 2023.

The Olympics 2024 will officially open in Paris on the night of Friday, July 26 and continue through Sunday, Aug. 11. The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will showcase 3,800 hours of live sport and award 329 gold medals in 32 sports over 18 days of competition across the capital and in other parts of France. The ambitious opening ceremony will take place along the River Seine instead of in a stadium.

Amidst this, an image claiming to show a design influenced by the Palestinian flag selected by China for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris is going viral on social media.

Fact Check-

We started our investigation with the help of a keyword and reverse image search on Google, whose results led us to the cover of the September 2023 issue of Vogue China Magazine. The same viral image featured there under the headline “The Power of Sport on Fashion”. The report states that the photo is part of a collection captured during a photoshoot showcasing models blending fashion with sports, conducted before the Asian Games took place in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 2023. Chinese supermodel He Cong covers Vogue China’s September 2023 issue, lensed by fashion photographer Leslie Zhang, with styling by Vivienne Sun.

Instagram post, dated 26 August 2023, by Vogue China further confirms that the viral image was part of the magazine’s photoshoot for the September 2023 issue celebrating sports.

Upon further search we found that that the Chinese athletes’ opening ceremony attire for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris will have red and white designs.
