Did Kangna Ranaut and Sashi Tharoor get their selfie clicked after the 2024 general election? No. The viral image is old.

In the 2024 general elections, the BJP and NDA alliance emerged victorious and formed the government. Celebrity Kangna Ranaut who was contesting from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh for BJP won from the constituency. 

After the elections, an image of Kangna Ranaut and Congress MP Sashi Tharoor is going viral on social media. Both of them can be seen taking selfies at some event happily. Social media users are sharing this image as an incident post 2024 general elections. 

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim was shared out of context. This is an old image of Sashi Tharoor and Kangna Ranaut during PM Modi’s oath ceremony in 2019.

Sharing the image, a social media user wrote, “Political party has its own place and friendship has its own. This is a symbol of love in the era of hatredness.”

The same image was also shared by another Facebook user a few days back. The user satirely wrote, “Lok Sabha begins officially.” These posts were accepted by people as a recent incident post BJP’s win in the 2024 general elections. 

Fact Check- 

A Google Reverse Image Search led us to the same image published on Navbharat Times website in 2021. From this it is clear that this is not a recent image after the 2024 general elections. 

Further, we found a few images including the viral image tweeted by the Congress MP himself on 30 May 2019. He had mentioned that these images were taken at Rashtrapati Bhavan during the swearing-in ceremony of the Council Ministers. Sashi Tharoor was seen taking photos with a few BJP Ministers as well. 

In the same thread, posting his selfie with Kangna Ranaut, he had said that during the event he met many Bollywood celebrities like Shahid Kapoor, Karan Johar, Rajkumar Hirani, Vivek Oberoi and Kangna Ranaut

According to the Times Of India report in 2019, the selfie of Kangna Ranaut and Sashi Tharoor was taken during PM Modi’s swearing-in ceremony when he was elected as Prime Minister of India for the second term. He took oath on 30 May 2019. The selfie of Kangna and Sashi Tharoor was also clicked on the same date.

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be shared without proper context. The selfie of Sashi Tharoor and Kangna Ranaut was taken during PM Modi’s swearing-in ceremony in 2019. This is not a recent incident post 2024 general elections.
