Roads were submerged and vehicles were swept away as heavy rainfall caused Sukhi River to flood in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar last day. Several cars were washed in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar following heavy rainfall in the region.
On this backdrop a video of showing massive flooding with numerous vehicles and houses being swept away is circulating widely on social media. The video, which was shared on July 2, is claimed to depict the situation in Haridwar during the flood.

Fact Check-
By performing a reverse image search on Google, the results led us to a YouTube video with similar visuals on the Japanese channel TBS NEWS Dig, dated February 25, 2021. The video depicts the deadly tsunami that struck the coast of Miyagi, Japan, on March 11, 2011. The description states, “At 2:46pm on March 11, 2011, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake, the largest ever recorded in Japan, occurred off the coast of Tohoku. A huge tsunami swept across the country, killing 15,899 people and causing extensive damage.
According to reports, in March 2011, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake in northeast Japan caused a large tsunami, causing severe destruction. The tsunami, which reached up to 30 meters high, inundated 433,000 square kilometers of land. Tsunami waves swept away cars and containers along the coast of Miyako in the Tohoku region. The disaster killed about 20 thousand people in Japan and injured many.
