The Video Of People Being Swept Away In Water Is Not From Gujarat.

Recently, five people were swept away due to a sudden rise in water level at a waterfall in Lonavala, Maharashtra. After this incident, a video of a similar incident is going viral on social media. In this, some people were swept away due to the rise in the water level of the waterfall. Users are sharing this video and claiming that after Lonavala, some people were swept away due to a sudden rise in the water level in a waterfall in Gujarat. Sharing the video on Facebook, a user wrote,

 “A second tragedy in Gujarat today.🥲🥲

Lonavala accident repeated in Gujarat today🙁🙁”.

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the viral video was not from Gujarat. It’s an old video from Ecuador. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check 

We started our investigation by taking some screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. As a result, we found a report published on the website “Teleamazonas” where an image similar to the screenshots of the viral video was attached.

According to the news published, four people were swept away by the sudden rise of water in the Holin River in Archidona Canton of Napo province and were later rescued. This incident took place on 17 October 2023.

Moving forward, we found the viral video on the YouTube channel Teleamazonas Ecuador. The video was uploaded on 18 October 2023 where the viral video clip can be seen. This makes it clear that the video is not recent, it’s about a year old. 

According to the news, four people were swept away due to sudden floods in the Holin River in Archidona Canton of Napo Province in Ecuador. However, they were rescued later. Seeing the rising water, people started shouting and evacuating the place, but four tourists were swept away in the waterfall. They were rescued a few minutes later.

We searched on Google whether any such incident has happened in Gujarat recently or not. We couldn’t find any report on such an incident.

The accident at Bhushi Dam in Lonavala:

On July 3, people had gone for a picnic near Bhushi Dam in the Lonavala hills of Pune, when suddenly the flow of water in the waterfall increased. 10 people were swept away in it, out of which five were rescued. While the bodies of the remaining five people were recovered on Sunday and Monday.

Conclusion 

From our investigation, we can say that the claim made with the viral video is false. The viral video is not from Gujarat. It’s an old video from the Napo Province of Ecuador.
