Is this a video of the recent stampede that happened during a religious programme in Hathras? Know the truth.

Recently, a devastating incident of a stampede from Hathras during a religious program came to the limelight. More than 100 people, mostly women and children, lost their lives in the incident. 

Against this backdrop, a video of a mob being victim of a stampede is going viral on social media. Users are claiming that this is a visual of the recent stampede from Hathras. 

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. This is an old video of a stampede from Mathura during Holi season. 

The caption of the post reads, “At least 116 people, mostly women, lost their lives in a stampede during a religious event in Hathras district, Uttar Pradesh”

Fact Check – 

A Google Reverse Image Search on a keyframe led us to the same video tweeted by a user on 17 March 2024. It was mentioned that this is an incident of stampede at a pre-Holi event at Mathura temple. 

A relevant keyword search led us to the NDTV report on 17 March 2024. According to the report, the stampede incident took place at Shreeji Temple in Mathura during a pre-Holi event. Many people were injured and few became unconscious. 

A video of the incident can be found below. 

According to another report, six people became unconscious and were taken to hospital after becoming a victim of stampede that took place at Shreeji Temple in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred during the Ladoo Holi celebration. Many devotees got crushed while trying to escape the stampede. 

Conclusion: 

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. This is not a video of a recent stampede from Hathras. The viral video is a visual of a stampede from Mathura during Holi season earlier this year.
