Did the National Investigation Agency (NIA) issue contact details for complaints against Muslims raising slogans? Know the truth.

A post claiming that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had issued contact details for complaints against Muslims raising anti-national slogans is going viral on social media.

The post reads, “NIA has issued an important number. Please save it. If you come across any wrongdoing by a Muslim like, terrorism planning, love jihad, construction of majar, social media posts etc. then you can inform by dialing these important numbers.

011-24368800

Mobile No. 9654447345

WhatsApp No. 8585931100

Landline No. 011-24368800

Fax No. 011-24368801

Email Id of NIA : info.nia@gov.in

If you find any Muslim commenting the slogan ‘Sar tan se juda’ on social media then take the screenshot, copy the link and call the number.

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. This is an old message which resurfaces on social media from time to time. The contact number given in the viral post is NIA’s Delhi division’s details.

Fact Check-

We also found a post on Threads with the same claim in 2023. It is clear that this is an old message which resurfaced again on social media.

But what is the real fact behind this message? Let’s find out

A relevant keyword search on Google led us to the National Investigation Agency (NIA’s) website in which the organization had clarified in 2022 that the above viral message is misleading. NIA wrote, “It has come to notice that certain misleading messages purportedly issued by NIA are being circulated on various social media platforms. Everyone is hereby informed that NIA has not issued any such message. Such messages are totally fake and malicious and are part of a mischievous design to mislead the public.

It further said that in 2021, the organization had found Islamic State (IS) was targeting youths and radicalizing them through false propaganda to spread their violent agenda. The number mentioned in the viral post was issued to complain against the above mentioned suspicious activity.

We also found ANI’s tweet in 2021 which said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has set up a hotline number – 011-24368800 – for reporting individuals who are promoting ISIS ideology on social media or attempting to radicalize young people.

Times of India reported in 2022 that NIA did not ask people to lodge a complaint with them if anyone raised ‘Sar tan se juda’ slogan. The organization called this message as a part of mischievous design to mislead people. The central agency clarified that the phone numbers it had shared publicly were intended for reporting activities related to the Islamic State.

Conclusion:

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. The contact details shared by NIA is for reporting activities related to the Islamic State and not against Muslims raising slogans.
