In the recent T20 World Cup, Afghanistan entered the semifinals after beating Bangladesh by 8 runs on 25th June. Against this backdrop, a video of the Afghanistan player chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Pakistan Murdabad” is going viral on social media.

Sharing the video on Facebook, a user wrote, “Afghan players have won hearts, felt very good, Bande Mataram 🇮🇳💗🇦🇫 Jai Hind

We started our investigation by taking some screenshots of the video and conducting a reverse image search. As a result, we found an image similar to the screenshots of the viral video published in the Free Press Journal on 24 October 2023. Moving forward, using relevant keywords, we found the viral video on a YouTube channel which was uploaded on 23 October 2023. The caption of the video read, AFG Players in dressing room Chanting Allah -hu Akbar after beating Pakistan | Afg Team Celebration”

Nowhere in the video Pakistan Murdabad or Bharat Mata Ki Jai could be heard. The Afghanistan team were cheering and chanting Allahu Akbar instead.

Further, we found the original video on the official Instagram account of Afghan player Mohammad Nabi.
