Sharing the video on Facebook a user wrote, “Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji greets His Holiness Pope Francis on the sidelines of the #G7 Summit in Italy. And invited him to India”.

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the viral video is from 2021 and not related to the G7 summit in Italy. Here’s the fact check.

We started our investigation by taking some screenshots of the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. As a result, we found a news report published on Vatican News in October 2021. The report had images similar to the screenshots of the viral video.
According to the report, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Pope Francis in the Vatican City on 30 October 2021. The report said, “On the morning of October 30, Pope Francis received Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India, in a private audience in the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican; their conversation lasted about an hour”.

Taking this clue, we ran a keyword search on YouTube and found the viral video uploaded on the official channel of PM Narendra Modi. The video was uploaded on 30 October 2021. The caption of the video read, “PM Modi meets Pope Francis in the Vatican City”.

This makes it clear that the viral video is not related to the recent G7 summit in Italy. The video is from 2021 when PM Narendra Modi met Pope Francis in the Vatican City.
