Fact Check-

The reverse image and key word search on Google we found that this incident is not related to Congress’ Mahalakshmi scheme. The Punjab Kesari uploaded the full video of this press conference on their official YouTube channel on 13 June 2024. The incident occurred during a press conference on 13 June 2024, in Tohana, Fatehpur. During this press conference, Selja Kumari was seen thanking the people and party cadre for their support in her victory in the Sirsa parliamentary constituency.

What exactly happened?

According to ETV India news, the entire issue was closed during the press conference. As Selja Kumari walked towards the press conference hall, several leaders followed her inside but former agriculture minister Paramvir Singh and his supporters remained outside. Selja Kumari started the press conference but Paramvir Singh and his supporters standing outside the gate got angry and started pushing the gate. Seeing the commotion outside the gate, she asked them to stop, but the supporters broke the gate and broke the glass of the sealed door and sent Paramvir Singh inside. When Paramvir Singh came inside, he complained that the gate was locked from inside. But Selja Kumari told them that no one had closed the gate. She also told reporters that the entire matter will be investigated. Information about the incident is available here. However, Mahalakshmi scheme was not mentioned anywhere in this place.

What is the Mahalakshmi scheme?

According to the Congress party’s manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Nyay Patra, Congress resolves to launch a Mahalakshmi scheme to provide ₹ 1 lakh per year to every poor Indian family as an unconditional cash transfer. The poor will be identified among the families at the bottom of the income pyramid. The amount will be directly transferred to the bank account of the oldest woman of the household. In the absence of a woman, it will be transferred to the account of the oldest member of the family. The scheme will be rolled out in stages and reviewed every year to assess the number of beneficiary families and its impact on alleviating poverty.

So, we can understand that the viral video is not related to the Mahalakshmi scheme.
