A video of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) candidate Navneet Rana crying uncontrollably has been going viral on social media, with the claim that she broke down after the election results were released on 4 June. The caption of the post states, “When Balwant Wankhede of the Congress party defeated sitting MP and BJP candidate Navneet Rana from the Amravati lok Sabha Constituency in eastern Maharashtra she became inconsolable”

We analysed the video carefully and found the logo of News 18 on the top right corner of the video and using this hints looked further and found the same video uploaded on CNN News 18 official YouTube channel on 5 May, 2022. The description mentions that Navneet Rana broke down in tears after meeting her husband in the hospital.

We also found several news reports from that time featuring visuals of the BJP leader Navneet Rana being consoled by her husband in the hospital. As per the news reports, the Rana couple was arrested on 23 April 2022 after they gave a call to recite Hanuman Chalisa outside Matoshree, which is the official residence of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray in Bandra, Mumbai. Navneet Rana later secured bail and received treatment after her release. The viral video shows the couple reuniting after 12 days of imprisonment. Navneet Rana was released from the Byculla jail, while her husband was released from Taloja jail.

Upon further search, we found that Hindi media Navbharat Times also reported this incident, which included several images of Navneet Rana on the hospital bed. The description mentioned that Rana was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai after being released from jail.
